Drinking coffee while wearing Invisalign is generally discouraged because it can ruin both your trays and your teeth. The dark pigments in coffee are notorious for staining clear plastic, quickly turning your “invisible” aligners a dingy yellow. More importantly, if you take your coffee with sugar or cream, these liquids will get trapped between the tray and your enamel. Because the tray prevents your saliva from washing away these sugars, you create a perfect environment for rapid tooth decay and acid erosion. If you must have your coffee, it is best to remove the trays, finish your drink quickly, and brush your teeth thoroughly before putting the aligners back in to maintain a healthy smile.
